Hair we go again...

You may remember that Carlisle United’s very own guinea pig, Jon-Paul McGovern, took a trip along to Riverside House here on Warwick Road to undergo a makeover with a difference, namely a hair tattoo, courtesy of that friendly lot at the Lockstock Salon.
A quick chat with right back Frank Simek confirmed that his wife Kristen was more than happy to give it a whirl, so we sent the pair along to meet Proprietor and Executive Stylist Lynda Kyle to find out what magic she could weave this time round.
“I was a bit nervous, if I’m going to be honest,” Kristen admitted. “You just never know what’s going to happen with this kind of thing, but I was looking forward to giving it a go. The staff very quickly put me at ease.”
For your average bloke a trip to the hairdresser can be a fairly impersonal affair, with a few snips here and the odd buzz of a razor there, but it quickly became apparent that it couldn’t be more different when it comes to a visit to Lockstock Hairdressing.

“For me, I like to spend 10 or 15 minutes with a new client just to talk through the options we have,” Lynda said. “I always find if you use that human touch, with plenty of eye contact, you build up a bit of trust almost immediately.
“When you think about it, putting your hair and the way you look into the hands of someone you don’t know is a massive thing to do, so it has to be important that everyone is as at ease and comfortable as they can be.”
“In most cases, I advise the clients to bring a picture along. So, if they’ve seen something they like or a colour they fancy, I have a reference point to work from. Everything is about communication with the client.”
“When she arrived she had all one colour, probably what you would call dark brown in layman terms, and it was very flat in appearance,” Lynda said. “The hair strands had faded at the ends due to sun damage, so there wasn’t any kind of shine to it at all.
I had a look at what we could do with it, with Kristen, and we picked out some really effective caramel and cookie tones.
The overall effect as it grows is you get a very smooth transformation from dark to light along the length of the hair, and it lasts for much longer than simply going for a single tone all over the head.”
“It took about two-and-a-half hours from start to finish, but it was worth it in the end,” Kristen told us.
The really noticeable thing was that it felt amazing when it was finished.” “Kristen was really excited about what we’d done,” Lynda added. “She kept saying she’d never been through anything like it before, so she was really happy once we finished it all off.
